We played footy one night up in Mossman. One of these kept flying into the flood lights and it was quiet a nuisance. It measured about a foot across. No, not the footy.

It's interesting though that the Atlas (see Sue's link) is found right down to New Guinea and the Hercules is New Guinea and Northern Australia.

I wonder why PNG is the only common ground. If it's due to the land bridge between Oz and SE Asia flooding - that would make both species quite ancient.

Something to ponder - but meanwhile, Ms Sue gets the GA on critter ID
