Vintage Chainsaw

What should be used as a cleaning agent for dirty well used vintage chainsaw that I just purschased on eBay?

Automotive carburetor cleaner spray is also very good -- but it can sometimes damage paint.

Someone had mentioned that,paint damage posilbility was pointed out as well. Thanks.

Lighter fluid works well. Firsthand experience. Any brand should be okay.
