Actually, I did some digging on Profinet and found that it is not similar to ModBus TCP/IP. Modbus TCP/IP is simply a Modbus data packet inserted into an Ethernet packet. Profinet works at a much lower foundation of ethernet bypassing the IP layer and all upper layers for communication. The data from ProfiBus must go through a protocol converting gateway to enter ProfiNet.
By the way I did contact AB with no luck as of yet. And due to finding out the nature of ProfiNet, it appears it would not be a reasonable solution for me.
