Design Calculation

05/24/2012 12:53 AM

Dear Sir,

Material seeds are conveyed from one machine to Storage Silo . After coming from machine temp of material is 90 deg. cel. I want to cool it to 40deg cel . using jacketed type screw conveyor .

What amount of water will requied to cool it to 40 deg cel. ? What will be the length of screw conveyor ? Residence time ?

Kindly help me rgarding this calcualtion

The residence time in the conveyor is the length of the conveyor divided by the speed of the conveyor.

The length of the conveyor can be worked out from the horizontal distance between the start and end, and the height difference between start and end, and Pythagoras' Theorem.

The rest depends on the specific heat of the <...material seeds...>, the flowrates of both the <...material seeds...> and the cooling water, and the cooling water inlet temperature, which is a function of the atmospheric conditions in the locality, the cooling tower size and what ever else is connected to it.

Capacity of material is 3000 Kg/ hr , Inlet Temp. of water 25 deg cel.

In principle, we also need to know: specific heat, thermal conductivity, and size of "seeds"; diameter of conveyor.
