Do not insulate the impulse tubing line(s) to the transmitter.

The impulse lines are expected to fill with condensed water to isolate (separate) the transmitter from the steam heat, which is above the temperature that the transmitter can tolerate.

Let the impulse tubing lose heat to the atmosphere to protect the transmitter

...unless there is a risk of someone grabbing hold of the line. Steam pipe burns on the skin are not very pleasant, trust me.

I presume you are referring to Pressure Transmitter. If that is the case, pls do not insulate.

Hope it clarifies.

Guvnor - there should be a mechanical hook-up drawing for the instrument. Do what's on the drawing. You have sought advice from the instrument manufacturer, though, haven't you?

Not sure wear the origonal poster is from If you don't insolate the impulse lines in northern canada the condensate will freeze. Unless you take the time in the fall to go through all the transmitters and do glycol fills.
