My "NEW" '85 Ford Club Van...

07/28/2012 2:10 PM

To Be Renued... Replaceing the 302 c.i. Engine & C-4 Trans... With...

144 Volt ( "12" 12 Volt Batteries.) Controler, 144 Volt Motor...

How can I use my 225 Amp. Linclon "Buz Box*." to charge the Batteries.

220 A. C. Volts input... is there a converter that can drop the 220 V. to 150 V. out put? when I set the Amps at 50?

This is not impossible, but your batteries will last longer if properly charged with a programmed charger.

If you do not have a DC output on your welder, then this would be a fair amount of work.

Often, DC welders have very low voltage output. (Mine is only about 20 volts)

Others have tried. you can do a web search and see if you are up to the task.

Given that a normal 12 volt automotive or deep cycle battery gets charged at around 14.2 - 14.4 volts so a system using ten of them in series will need around 169 - 173 volts DC give or take.

It just happens that your normal 120 VAC utility power when rectified gives a peak DC voltage right around 170 volts DC which falls right in that working range.

Granted you may need a rather large circuit and preferably an isolation transformer to do unless you have a way of limiting the current flow but its a workable solution.

Next year, when it is time for a smog test, bring a camera to record the reactions when they see the readings from the defunct tailpipe. Good luck with the project.

I was informed two weeks ago that all future smogs of ECU controlled cars will be computer only, no tailpipe gas analysis. California.
