What is a BMS?

Why would you not ask the, "BMS technician" what he means?

I am going to make an educated guess that bms is Building Management System in this case being related to HVAC and the temperature control system, and by set to zero means zero deg C for ice?

So, they are making ice when electricity is cheap, then using it to cool the building during peak demand hours?

Why didn't Op say that?

Just a guess, but there may be a scheme in the ice builder system for detecting how much ice (vs. water) is present. This could be used to start/restart the refrigeration. The BMS guy wouldn't necessarily know the answer to this, but the ice builder mfr should be able to help.

The ice builder mfg might have an insight into how much ice you'll need to make each night to carry you through the next day.

No sense in freezing more water than you'll need. Just wastes energy. Some reserve is necessary.

BMS- Building Management system is predominantly used in building services particularly in refrigeration and air conditioning applications. In order to program the set point the end-user needs to provide the required details to the BMS installation team. In this case the user can ask the BMS supplier for what purpose they need the data and accordingly the user can furnish it.
