Monitoring Activities in a Gas Compressor Station

08/07/2012 5:17 AM

Questions:

1 Are there corrosion monitoring access fittings in a gas compressor station?

2 If yes, where are they located?

3 Do we do chemical injection as part of compressor station monitoring?

4 Are there sampling points provided within the gas compressor to monitor water content, dissolved solids and chemicals in the gas intended for compression?

5 Is there the possibility of scale formation and paraffin precipitation during gas compression?

6 What are the best known procedures for gas compressor monitoring? Any relevant reference document?

A1, A2 & A4) As shown on the "as built" P&ID for the installation.

A3) If the original equipment manufacturer's Operation and Maintenance Manual says do so, then emma3048 and colleagues need to create and follow a Standard Operating Procedure to cover it. Only emma3048 and colleagues can answer the question as to whether or not it is actually happening, as it cannot be seen from here.

A5) If the precursors to these substances are to be found within the gases that the equipment is intended to compress, then yes. The gas composition cannot be seen from here.

A6) The original equipment manufacturer's Operation and Maintenance Manual would be the best place to look.

Damn it! I hate it when I lose my class notes and nobody else in class bothered to write them down

1 Are there corrosion monitoring access fittings in a gas compressor station?

= Yes only if the scope of work has specified them and contractually there is an obligation due to the process. Not all corrosion is due to sour gases but to the corrosion caused by rusting, and it has to be specified which ones apply =

2 If yes, where are they located?

= Too many places to describe in such a short blog, also a dedicated Engineering Company has to do the pertinent studies =

3 Do we do chemical injection as part of compressor station monitoring?

= Not necessarily, will depend on the engineering and project requirements =

4 Are there sampling points provided within the gas compressor to monitor water content, dissolved solids and chemicals in the gas intended for compression?

= They should be but again the design should define them =

5 Is there the possibility of scale formation and paraffin precipitation during gas compression?

= Yes =

6 What are the best known procedures for gas compressor monitoring? Any relevant reference document?

= Too many to describe here =
