Every PLC manufacturer has their own program that you can buy for writing PLC code. You must install the program (on your lap top) for every brand of PLC you wish to work with.

Actually, it seems that there are several manufacturers that will give you a 30 day free trial for you to play with their software. But, if it is your first time working with this kind of program, you may find it very confusing.

It takes a small investment of time (and sometimes money) to become familiar with any particular PLC. All they really are is dedicated computers with easy access to inputs and outputs of different kinds. If you ask an interviewer, they think PLC's are some kind of magical device that is so unique that they have the only one.

Here are a few PLC simulators for you to play with.

PSIM PLC Simulator

A particularly good one (because it is something with which almost everyone is familiar) is #3, the Intersection Traffic Light Control Simulation.

PLC software is vendor specific. If you are using a Siemens PLC, you use Siemens PLC software. If it is an Allen -Bradley PLC, you use Allen-Bradley software. Omron = Omron software, etc. etc. If you are not using a PLC yet, pick one of those three, they are the most prominant in different parts of the world; if you are in North America, pick A-B, if you are in Asia, pick Omron, anywhere else pick Siemens. You will then need to take courses in programming, it's not something you learn just because you have a laptop. All of those manufacturers have small entry-level PLC systems that come with free or very inexpensive software for beginners.

I believe he is taking an electronics course of some sort, but has repurposed the money that was intended for textbooks. Thus, he is here...

I think he has somehow confused CR4 with a free homework help site. His questions all seem so...so..........homeworky.

Feel free to apply any of the more familiar terms that I would have used before we became a kinder, gentler forum, or many of the terms used in the recently closed, then re-opened GW fiasco.

Homeworky seems an appropriate word here.

Yeah, I have been watching that one... Didn't really get that warm and fuzzy feeling from reading some of those comments.

Unusual move on the part of Admin. We'll see how it goes.

I think it's admirable on their part that they muzzled some of the worst offenders.

There was quite a mixture of politics, religion and downright bile there.

kramarat came back just for that, I think.
