Ceiling Fan Problem

08/18/2012 6:09 PM

Was changing out a pull chain switch on ceiling fan. Three small strips of brass fell out. I think they came from the reverse switch assembly. Now I don't know where they go on the assembly. Can someone direct me to a schematic that shows where they go ?

Thanks, Tom

1. Buy a new fan.

2. Tell us what kind of fan it is.

3. Look on the manufacturer's website for a schematic.

4. Buy a new fan.

Welcome to CR4.

I think they came from the reverse switch assembly

Why do you think so ?

If it's stuck in one direction of rotation, you could just invert the blades according to whether it's Summer or Winter.

Your easiest and safest option is to get somebody qualified to come take a look, or buy a new one.

Probably the decision that will cost you least money and headache, Tom.

It'd have been nice to see you get a solution that was 'easy', but it isn't always going to happen.

ps - google the quote (minus the bit in brackets) - I found it in some online survey. There are people out there with far worse problems than a busted fan !

Come on back some time soon and explore CR4. Lots of fun and info to be found - it will take the sting out of having to fork out for the new fan.

Got any pictures of the aftermath?

Six hours means there must be a big pile-o-parts around.

Show us your wares.

If we're going down that road, we need to get some basics sorted.

Techno Jargon for Tom to explain to significant other why it wasn't his fault, that kind of thing. At 6 hours he deserves some sort of special ratiionality/perseverence badge.

Any domestic faults and I run for the hills after 1 hour. If the cooker goes wrong, I could possibly do it in a couple of hours, but handing over the credit card is far less painfull. Quick phonecall to a fitter, 'I'm just off to check out the retailers <nearest bar> hun. It'll all be sorted soon' !

Do recycle the old one. Landfill is such an inelegant solution for dead ceiling fans.
