A Missing Link

08/27/2012 8:25 PM

How come you have no site for Mining, Geology and exploration, this is one of only four disciplines that create new wealth, not just reworking old wealth- seems to me there is a huge gap here that turns me off on the site-

How about Sustainable Engineering

We don't have that many Mining, Geology or Exploration questions asked on CR4 (hence no forum yet), in fact I think we get more medical questions than these.

If you have a question try asking in either Sustainable Engineering or the General section.

Hi Hugh - welcome to CR4! It's true we don't have sections for every possible topic. We do encourage engineering or science related discussions in the section that may be the best fit.

Depending on your particular topic you may want to consider Sustainable Engineering or New Technologies & Research. The General section is a great place for topics that don't fit elsewhere.

"...this is one of only four disciplines that create new wealth..."

I guess that would depend on your definition or concept of wealth.

Manufacturing reworks old wealth, services use it but do not create- only resources create

Okay.

Your comment provides no insight to your definition or concept of wealth.

Is wealth the establishment and maintenance of the ownership of these resources? Do you believe it is the accumulation of available resources, whether abundant or not, with an eye towards social stratification?

Oh, Brother!

Since you are new here, let me just say that the vast majority of the regular members are very pleased with this site, the content of this site, the moderation of this site, and MOST of the new faces who come to visit this site.

On the other hand, most new visitors don't criticise the site in their very first post, and I think it is very arrogant of you to insist that the site be changed to suit your whim!!!

I find it very interesting the volume of the comments as to wealth - I was using the simple persuasion that NEW wealth - in other words products or components that did not exist to be reworked but were newly created- and by the way I was not criticizing- only commenting and asking why an important sector could not be found by a new member. I am sorry if I offend but I still do not believe the manipulation of money is as important as the creation of physical products. Yes we all love our industries, and manufacturing is very important, but particularily in Canada, a resource rich country. some politicians have tried to diminish the resource sector - and I quote "move into the 21st century" I again state I am not criticizing, but hopefully opening a dialogue that can benefit us all-if we think- we win

Fair enough my friend.

Welcome to the group. As has been mentioned, feel free to start a discussion about your craft and trade in the General Discussion section. If a moderator believes it will get more attention in another of the CR4 forums your thread can be moved easily.

We can be a helpful bunch of people.

Well,

As Doorman said, start a discussion, or a Blog. The folks here are always ready to discuss things, without having a specific cubby hole to put it in. (I know, never end a sentence with a preposition).

Just start a "what is wealth" thread in the General section, and see what happens.

The definition of wealth is subjective and context-dependant and therefore cannot be boiled down to its simplest original form (the abundance of valuable resources or material possessions).

Wealth

Now days other factors have to be taken into account such as manufactured capital or intellectual capital when determining wealth, not just the raw materials themselves but the added value (for example a computer).
