To calibrate a control valve you adjust the stroke of the valve so it is fully in one position on one end of the range and fully in the other position on the other end of the range.

Depending of the action of the valve minimum signal may mean open or it may mean closed with the maximum signal indicating the opposite.

How the stroke is adjusted will depend on the type of valve.
