Why Was VHF Only Used for Monochrome TV

09/15/2012 6:49 PM

I understand that in the old days here in the UK, VHF was not used for colour TV. Anyone know why?

There is no technical reason for that. VHF spectrum allocation for TV broadcast is small with 13 channels only & it seems that by the time colour TV was introduced, the VHF band was saturated. There was no spectrum left for colour TV. In third world countries colour TV channels are working on VHF band.
