Sponge Iron in Induction Furnace

09/26/2012 2:55 AM

hi

is it possible to produce cast iron by using DIR in induction furnace?

i have a 5 ton induction furnace and i charge DIR in it with a molten metal pool of steel and charge DIR Continuously . my charging rate is 70Kg/h for steel production and I have 2 problems:

1- Tap to tap time :I could get melting rate of 1200kg/h. how can I increase it?is it normal?(temperature :1600 C)

2- Lining erosion is terrible and after getting 15 ton of steel melt I have to destroy the lining and re-lining the furnace. My lining is SiO2

Sponge iron specification : Fe(metal): 82%, C:0.5-1% , M: 92%

please guide me to :

increase tap to tap time and improving the lining with SiO2

thanks for your guides.
