Minimum Distance Between HV UG Cable and Gas Pipeline

10/16/2012 8:47 PM

I have the question about the length between 115kV underground cable and underground gas pipeline, how many minimum distance between them and related international standard?

Thank you very much.

Where are you, and which international standard?

Is this your first pipeline?

Or, is it power line?

The, "distance between them and related international standard" should be no more than the distance between your office and the pipeline/power line.

In other words, you have not supplied much helpful information.

I have the existng underground gas pipeline, and I need the information to design the underground route line of 115kV power cable. So the minimum distance between underground gas pipeline and underground 115kV power cable is the information that i didn't know, if you or anyone know from standard or method of calculation please share the knowledge.

Thank you very much

It depends on what standards you are working to (both for the gas and power). As these vary from country to country (and in some cases state to state) you need to find the relevant standards, the country and application-specific data for your particular site will be in there.

Please note that only qualified engineers are allowed to perform the design calculations and specify the distances and civil works, and these can vary from site to site (the answer is not just some single distance number). If you don't have access to these you will need to outsource this project to professionals such as an engineering consultancy.

"Please note that only qualified engineers are allowed to perform the design calculations and specify the distances and civil works,"

Whilst I agree with everything else you've said (GA by the way). I think that the existence of this question may indicate that your above statement may be a little optimistic.

I think that the existence of this question may indicate that your above statement may be a little optimistic.

I am fairly confident Cirto is doing something that he or she shouldn't be, and while I would have liked to say what I really thought (and I have done with others in the past with mixed results) I decided a more civil and calm response may be a better option to convey the message.

CR4 gets a lot of these cringe-worthy requests and you cannot help but feel that if you don't offer some kind of simple and obvious advice in a way the poster may actually stop and think upon, some of these people will blindly go ahead and do something that will get someone killed.

Well, that's that! 300mm.

Now you can "design" your system.

You've got an "expert" answer to your query.

Now all you need is someone to "sign off" on your "design". Or will you just note fidhahusian, from CR4 did the calculations per XYZ specification.

Please tell us what country your project is in. We'll want to monitor your progress.

Hire an engineer, save some lives.

I don't know if it will serve your purpose. I put forward the excerpts from DIN VDE 0101 standard for Erection of Power Installations with Rated Voltage above 1000 V:

" Where cables cross or are in proximity to gas and water pipes as well as other pipelines, the following shall be observed:

-Crossings

A clearance of at least 0.2 m shall be maintained between cables with nominal voltage above 1 kV and pipelines

-Proximities

In the case of lateral proximities or parallel routing, a minimum clearance of 0.4 m shall be maintained between cables over 1 kV and pipeline."
