Wire Rope Hoist

10/26/2012 3:41 AM

in every wire rope hoist manual, the manufacturer always said that always press the "UP" button on pendent once the hoist is electrical powered and not the "DOWN" button.if crane moves up when up button is pressed then everything is ok else reverse supply terminals of hoist.

i want to know what happens if we press "down" pendent button first when hoist is initially electrically powered.

please explain technically ,no place for rubbish criticism.

Is there a RTFM button on that pendant?

What do you think, coolyaar could be the logic behind the manufacturer's dictum? Think hard.

Technically it goes down unless of course the rotation is wrong then it goes up. Or in the worst cases it doesn't move at all.

Technically also when you ask a question you end the sentence in a question mark. Not a period. And begin a sentence with a capital letter.

Buy a good quality hoist with an ultimate top limit. No problems then.

The only place you probably won't get critisim is from the person who sold you the hoist? That is, if you aren't asking this question for another imaginary friend.

Think about, long and hard.

Ask the supplier, who made the equipment and will know the answer, and will be willing to impart knowledge unto you.

Ahh! This reminds me of whenever the wife wants the temperature changed. She tells me she wants the "cooling turned up", which to me means she wants the setpoint turned down.

So now whenever she wants it changed, she just says turn the cooling up-down, and I get to figure out which direction she wants.

Something like your operators are going to have to do if you don't follow the directions. There is a clue in there someplace - if you can only figure it out.

Probably because you press up for tension & any slack in the wire is sorted out during the motion. Then press down to release the strain. After the sytem regularises, it is ready for use.

It has to do with the UP limit switch. The limit switch is connected to the UP button. If the motor rotation is in correct then the hoist cold be damaged.

Has someone messed about with this hoist since it was first commissioned? If so, why?

The hoist may be near one end of it's travel. If near top (up limit) it will go up and stop by it's top limit or go down and you will know to reverse it. If near bottom (no bottomn limit) it will go up (Okay) or go down to end of rope and rewind backwards on drum and seem to go up. This is not nearly as destructive as pressing down at top of travel if backwards and jamming at top since top limit will not stop down button. Jamming at top may break rope, stall motor or what ever.
