What sort of fasteners - woodscrews? Rivets? Nuts and bolts? Safety pins? Duffle-coat toggles?

no sense what you're saying. Try reading a little about both.

In most cases the is no difference. Fastener Manufacturers in most cases produce their product so it is compliant to standards that are set forth by most organization setting standards. Easier to market that way.

ISO Standards are those issued by the International Standards Organisation, whilst DIN Standards are issued by the German equivalent of British Standards (BS). If a standard is adopted by both of these and by the European Normalisation body, you can tell from the document number which will be in the form:

  • ISO EN BS <number>
  • ISO EN DIN <number>
  • ISO DIN <number>
  • EN DIN <number>

and so on.

I suggest you follow the previous advice of looking at the standards themselves - you'll probably find that the DIN and ISO standards are the same thing.

Far more important is the use to which you're putting them. It's no good using an ISO standard wood fastener in a furnance...

The trick with standards is how you apply them - the product you use has to be fit for the purpose to which you intend to use it, not just fit for a purpose.
