UC3842 and Buck Converter as a Charger

11/20/2012 7:37 AM

Hello, i'm pristya from Indonesia.

well, i have a question about my final project about Universal Battery Charger for mobile phone and laptop. I design it with Buck converter and UC3842 (as my lecture wishes). but the problem is is that possible the UC3842 read the laptop's current in the battery for charging process? all that i know is UC3842 work in a low current.

Can you all help me to solve my problem? I'll be waiting for the comments. Thank you :)

Those I.C,s UC3842 or UC3843 and UC3845 are PWM (pulse width modulation ) series had been used in many designs of switching power supply and high current chargers as MOSFET PWM driver .the answer of your question is .you can use it. regarding of current that you want to design completely depends on max current of a MOSFET that will be driven and also the design of the high frequency transformer . for more details search in google about UC3842.

i know, but the currents range is very small. and the laptop's current is very high.

so if i still using UC3842, is that ok?

thank you :)

Can't you use a series pass power transistor ahead of UC3842?

For what function UC3842 have been used.i stated to you that a current that you want don't depend on the UC3842.

Download data-sheet of UC3842 datasheet from Texas Instruments & study it to clear your doubts.
