Dear Friends,

I have supplied a 62.5 KVA Cummins Make Genset with PCC0301 Genset Controller (Manual Control Panel). As soon as Genset stop, a error message display Low Lube Oil pressure and Yellow warning light still glowing until engine restart. After starting engine Yellow light stop glowing. I have replaced Lube Oil recently. What are the resons ?Suggest your views.

Dear Mr. Barua,

Please check :

1. Lube Oil pipe line for blockage,

2. Lube Pressure Switch and

3. Loose electrical connections

Quality of Lube oil stands nowhere responsible for any pressure warning.

Regards.

Which model of cummins engine?Cummins NTA 855 series? Lube Oil pressure drop is normally occur due to worn out main bearings of the Engine block.Otherwise, lube oil is not reaching in main bearings due to some block in the lube oil line.It is a serious issue, the crankshaft will be damaged due to high heat buildup during prolonged use without sufficient lubrication. If the engine is still running without any problem, then some other fault in the display circuit will be the root cause.

Sounds to me like an electrical fault. The oil pressure will obviously be low when the engine's not running, but "something" should cut the supply to the indicator. Maybe a stuck relay contact?

Pull the pressure sending unit and clean it; or possibly replace sending unit; plus pour some of same oil into port before re-installing sensor. Sometimes can be caused by the new oil detergent may have 'washed' off residual sediment that was allowing sensor to read. The manual control panel is an indication of equipment age; so I assume this unit is older unit.

The Lub oil Pressure switch will have one NC contact. This will be connected to yellow light.

The pressure switch will open the NC contact when the pressure in the system goes up above 1.5 kg/cm2.

Whenever the engine is running the lub oil pressure will be above 1.5 kg/cm2.

Therefore ,if the Luboil pressure is normal > 1.5 kg/cm2 there will not be any indication.

During engine running if the Luboil pressure goes below 1.5 kg/cm2, the presuree switch contact will be back to NC and yellow lamp will glow to indicate LUB oil pressure is low.

Therefore, whenever the engine comes back to idle after running the pressure switch contact will be in NC mode and yellow lamp bound to glow.

This is the principle .

But there should be on stop/start/run switch in the engine panel.

The circuit should be active only when the switch is in Start/Run mode.

Therefore in stop mode the lamp should not glow if the switch is in stop mode.

Please check switch circuit. Since you have made the panel check the circuit. If the circuit is in order ,may be stop/start/run switch defective.

I fully agree with RamVinodh and JohnDG .I would like to add one more point.Normally Lube oil pressure switch will be connected with a delay timer so that initially when the engine is startd the timer bypasses the alarm signal for few mins so that false alarm is avoided. After the time elapsed if still the pressure is low, the alarm contact is activated. So pls check for this provison and if so check the timer and its setting. You may also wish to contact Cummins for their comment/advice

Hello friend, I guess you have solved your problems. But I would like share some useful tips for you. When our genset is used for a long time, some malfunctions may occur that will cause the generator fail to start. If the genset fails to start, you can analyze the causes from fuel system, electric starting system, insufficient compression pressure in the cylinder and the low ambient temperature and other factors.

Check the following issues:

1. Air in the fuel system

2. Fuel Line Obstruction

3. Fuel Filter Clogging

4. The Handle Position of Fuel Injection Pump Is Not Correct

5. Fuel Injector Problem – Little fuel injection or fuel injection is not atomized

6. Oil Supply Problem – Oil transfer pump doesn’t supply oil or the oil supply is brokenly.

7. Battery Power Shortage

8. Circuit Wiring Error or Poor Contact

The compression pressure in the cylinder is insufficient; fuel injection is normal but does not catch fire; or fuel oil inside the exhaust pipe

9. Excessive wear of piston ring and cylinder liner

10. Valve leakage

11. Combustion chamber volume is too large
