I have a couple ideas... but...
I am in the middle of doing some light remodeling in my house. I tore out all the carpet and pad from my two upstairs bedrooms and the hallway. I noticed a couple "patch" panels in the floor of one of the rooms. I couldn't resist opening them up to see why they were there. It was a new wire route for a ceiling fan, no biggie there. Once it was opened , my wife (who has a much more sensitive nose than I) remarked that a strong smell of Vomit was noticed.
I left the room and re-entered, yep.. Vomit.
I looked all around through the new openings on the floor, and saw no water damage, or dirt of any kind, no insulation. Everything appears to be clean and dry. I haven't found any water damage anywhere in the house.
I read a bit about some chinese drywall that tends to release some foul oders, but this was mainly in warm humid regions. (I'm in Oregon, so humidity is extremely high, but not so warm.
I also did have some mice a few months ago... killed 4 or 5 of them, and haven't seen once since, still have set traps in various places that have been untouched for a few months.
The smell is unmistakable, and smells exactly like someone was sick on the floor, but no one was.... very odd. The smell isn't what I'm used to smelling if something dies inside the floor, or you have dry rot or anything else. The smell was not present alt all until I opened up the patches on the floor (which had air gaps before they were removed.)
Any ideas?
I'm having the new carpet installed tomorrow, so my only window is tonight.
