Check the manufacturers specs- or better yet, check them and then make a phone call to the manufacturer to find out how they would classify the operating environment the units are functioning in. This matters more than any standard rule of thumb; you can obviously expect a significant difference between intervals in a dusty desert versus a clean mountain area.

...because to do otherwise may reduce the lifetime of the machine, increase the downtime of the machine and impact the manufacturer's warranty on the machine.

The manufacturers recommendation is very conservative and shoots up the maintenance cost when I used it,so I want a much more practical opinion from someone who has the experience of maintaining similar gensets. The enviroment in which the gensets will be utilised is very clean and level of humidity and rainfall is good enough to minimise the amount of air contaminations.

Well, keep in mind PW Slack's note on warranties & figure out which is cheaper- filters or voided warranties. We don't have to back up what we say here, so keep that in mind.

I can't help you any more, but if you at least post what the manufacturers spec'ed intervals are someone else might.

Thanks a lot JNB,in this regards however for the air filter the manufacturers recommendation is actuall a general recommendation, dealers like us are allow to determine our intervals based on the site situations, in these case we are also providing an availability guarantee on maintenance contract that we are providing hence we want to be near accurate as much as we can, the manufacturers interval is actually way higher than we are using so we are much on the safer side, I have worked my way around the problem now though, after due consulation with our men in the field and the manufacturers product reps accross the globe, thanks everyone for your contributions.
