Allowable Nozzle loads for Centrifugal Pumps on Offshore Facilities

02/08/2013 12:43 AM

the allowable nozzle loads for centrifugal pumps are given in API-610. but for the offshore facilities, these allowables are multiplied with some factors like 2 times or 4 times the values given in API 610. i want to know why these factors are used and how these are decided???

It might be allowed depending on what depth they are at.The pressure on the outside of the pump would counter the inside pressure.

Who multiplies this by 2-4 times? This makes no sense to me. API 610 is designed for offshore. It is, after all, 'The American Petroleum Institute'.

Sach...

Have you asked the people who multiply these allowables by this amount ? Or do you just post any silly question that comes to mind on this forum..????

Codes and Standards exist, but are not followed by all.

If I choose to multiply allowable loads by my shoe size, it may not be wise, but it is my choice.

By the way, only robust API-610 centrifugal pumps are constructed to sustain up to the allowable loads in the code.

Many centrifugal pumps ( e.g ASME B73.1 pumps) cannot sustain loads this high...
