Early Detection of Fault in Rotor of Slipring Induction Motors

What is reason behind frequent flashover in the overhang portion of the rotors of slipring ring induction motor (360kw) fixed in hoist drives of overhead EOT cranes.

Carbon building up due to poor maintenance is the usual culprit.

Now a days many customers avoid slipring motors and prefer VFD drive to avoid such problems with motors. Also these motors are expensive and need resistance boxes and master controller in the circuit.

There are Carbon brushes making contact on the sliprings.

The sliprings have developped some wear that is making the carbon brushes to jump abit and spark, Examine the sliprings surfaces and the wear on the brushes before it damages the sliprings further !...

The reason is reduced or absent timely preventative maintenance activity.
