Recommend Under Sink Water Filter Unit?

03/07/2013 1:37 PM

I was wondering if any of you guys would recommend an under sink water filter . there are plenty of them in the market , but they all seem to have a Quick Connect plastic tube and fittings . it would be nice to see something with real Hardware if possible . my experience with the plastic push in fittings is that they will leak sooner or later if you look at them the wrong way . I am looking for the type of unit that has a separate spigot off to the side . if you have 1 with plastic fittings that you love let me know . budget is an issue .. does that mean I have to skimp on quality?!

About 2 years ago I installed a 5 filter Watts unit. I replaced an existing Culligan system because I hate proprietary systems.

I live in the country and my water is loaded with iron and sulphur.

The plastic push in fittings work great if they are installed correctly; once pushed in, pull out firmly to set.

Mine hasn't leaked a bit, and the water is as good as it gets.

I have had good results with systems from Aquasafe for many years. One of their kits comes with a faucet assy. I feed a separate faucet at the sink, my refrigerator ice maker and make water for my saltwater fish tank.

Their might be some use info here as well.

Push fit is fine if the pipes are cut clean, lubricated with a bit of spit or soapy water and PUSHED FULLY HOME. The only leaks I've ever had is when they weren't fully home, probably because they were in a confined space and the pipes weren't clean cut or lubricated and they felt like they'd gone in but hadn't.

If it was me, my main concern would be the cost of re-fill/replace of the cartridges. Go for initial expense but cheap replenichment rather than t'other way round.

Look up "Pure Water , LLC" Denton Texas--I have a complete system from them. Send in your water sample, or obtain it from your current water district, and send it to them.. I am on a Lake Water system, and have certain Agricultural pesticides to contend with, so my filters are dialed in for that. You may have a totally different set of circumstances and they will steer you in the right direction. They respond by mail, pick up the phone, and put Techs on the line with you. Cannot recommend them highly enough. Top notch construction, and many , many hundreds cheaper than all the other local systems I priced (many of them Multi-level products). My regular Plumber had no problems installing and testing them. I have a sediment filter , and a dual carbon block from the street to the house, for shower, sinks etc, then go to another three stage system that fits under the sink, for all of my washing, drinking and cooking water. Not an R/O system (had that before), so the minerals are present, just not the chemicals and chlorine. Hope this helps.

Do not be concerned with the push fit they work great if the tubing is all the way in and the end is square. Rain Fresh makes a very good unit with a ceramic filter made by I think Dalton. Add a charcoal filter for the toxic stuff and if you are on RO water install a coral calcium filter to bring the minerals and PH back to healthy status. Rain Fresh was very well priced last time I looked and that was over a year ago.

Roy, I have an RO system but no re-mineralizer.

How important do you think that is?

It doesn't matter until your bones go rubbery, brittle or disappear

If you have any PH test strips test your water , Healthy water is 7.0 neutral if you consume acid water or other drinks such as cola's it will effect your body in a very negative way. Acid cells do not absorb oxygen nearly as well as proper ph of body that should be 7.2-4. Cancer thrives in acid conditions as well as the vast majority of pathogens. When we are working with sick persons one inexpensive and highly effective protocol is to get their PH back to 7.2-4 quickly. When I had prostrate cancer I drove it up to 8 on the saliva test and with about 6 other protocols I was declared cancer free in 90 days. In bygone days doctors always checked patient for acidosis and corrected it to treat them. Inexpensive and effective but the medical industry took over common sense and our food supply is not up to standards. There is a host of good information on body PH and illness. One book is titled Alkalize or Die. Yo can also check the works of Dr. Warburg and Dr. Johanna Budwig. I hope I spelled it correctly.. Cheers.
