05/02/2013 4:21 AM

Could anyone help me with a diagram, both mains and control, for a closed transition star/delta starter?.

Just out of curiosity, why on earth would you want to go to that trouble, as opposed to spending less and attaining more control by using a solid state soft starter?

JRaef,

We have an existing installation which starts a motor using an open transition

star/delta starter. On changeover from star to delta we are getting a high current

peak of about 6 times full load current. It is being proposed to change the starter to

closed transition type to reduce the current peak on changeover.

Soft starter is not suitable for this application.

  • "Soft starter is not suitable for this application."

What makes you say that? There is NOTHING that the Closed Transition Star-Delta starter is going to give you that you will not get from a soft starter, but there is PLENTY that you will get from the soft starter that you cannot attain with the CTSD.

Number one benefit, not closed transition, how about NO transition!

There is a physical limitation on this installation, i.e. it is not possible

to fit a soft starter of the size required for this pump motor in the

area available.
