I sometimes get my lunch in "subway". To my astonishment most of the younger customers in there when asked what they want start there requests with "Can I get...".
This annoys both myself and my colleague (OK: who is also getting on a bit). We want to say something like: "No you idiot: he/she has to get it for you."
Is this expression as annoying to older US English speakers, or is it acceptable across the pond, and rapidly taking over on this side.
What's this got to do with engineering? Well, nothing I suppose , but, I'm sure there are a few people here who will have opinions.
