Hardwired Cable and Data Link Cable

05/16/2013 3:03 AM

What is the different between hardwired cable and data link cable? Is hardwired cable for connection between panel or rvrn more than that? What is the function of data link cable? For transmission data?
Thank you

Doesn't it say on the System Architecture Drawing?

Data Link cable can be but doesn't necessarily has to be hard wired into the device.

Data Link cable is the option to transmit data, it links your device up to other devices that might need your data.

Can you wire me 100 Dollars. I will never losely wire them back since I will have a bad, disconnected not hard wired in datalink!

I've always though of hard wired cables as those without connectors.

Data link cable is self explanatory, I'd say.

As Lyn said "hardwired" is a type of termination where the conductor is connected directly to the device and is "hard" to remove without the use of a tool, it is exactly the opposite of a termination in a connector that connects to another connector for ease of connection/removal.

The term "data link cable" often refers to a cable that is meant for interconnecting pieces of equipment that use a non-standard/proprietary communications protocol or wiring scheme which precludes the use of readily available generic cables such as ethernet or RS-232. The cable and/or connectors may look physically the same as the generic type but the way the pins are connected in the connectors will prevent them from being interchangeable and may lead to equipment malfunction or a failure to communicate properly.

These two terms (hardwired and data link) are not standard terms. They can be interpreted to mean different things in different scenarios by different people. I would say that a hardwired cable resides between sensor and a single receiving electronics package with little to no signal conditioning devices attached. In contrast a data link cable carries information that has been translated from a sensor to a standard data protocol to be routed to multiple devices.
