Regular automobiles use transmission fluid. Don't know about tractors.

Tractors - Case IH

Case TCH Fluid or Case Hy-Tran ULTRA

Not sure what non Case brand equivalents would be.

Those numbers just denote viscosity range.

There's a lot more to hydraulic/transmission/torque converter fluid than viscosity. I think a 580 has 3 to 5 hydraulic and lubrication systems. You need an owner's manual to make sure you get the right amount of the right lubricant in the right place. Or call a dealer. A small error can be very costly.

Our case 1150 track loader uses any standard hy-tran type universal hydraulic transmission oil or automatic transmission fluid so the odds are your CAse 580 uses the same or will work just fine with the same type of fluids.

If your machine is like ours you have two different hydraulic systems and because of that I add about 1/4 automatic transmission fluid in with the hy-tran fluid to give it a light red color.

The main purpose adding the automatic transmission fluid is to just give the hy-tran fluid a red tint so it's easier to tell which system is dripping and from where.

Absolutely. It may even be in the user manual that the OP received with it. Unless it got blown away in a tornado or something in which case, all the OP has to do is pick up the 'phone! "Rickenbacker! Good grief!"

The level of torque can be controlled by adding more or less oil.

Until the transmission burns up a short time later from lack of proper lubrication and cooling.

Re: Torque Converter Oil

As far as I know, the torque is being transmitted by oil. The system consist of two fans placed in closed container. A driving fan makes the oil circulating and a driven fan moves with the oil.

This means when there is no oil, no torque can be transmitted. No torque, no warming up….

Rudy,

Suggest you research hydraulic pumps and systems. So far, both of your statements are incorrect and misleading.
