Paint on a Awning/Shade

Cloth, plastic, vinyl, leather, alien hide.... What is the material?

it is a flexible rexin /vineyl type --not fibre, used for awnings and shades.

What kind of paint will last long on this.

Whatever paint you use the following applies:

1. has to be compatible with the undercoat

2. undercoat has to be suitable for material being painted

3. surface preparation is the key to success with paint. Clean it, perpare it wash it -make sure it has no leftovers of dirt grease oil on it and also wash off soap or cleaning agents

4. use an apropriate way of painting and apply thin layers with a brush or better a spray can. The rule of thumb is two or three thin coats is better than one thick one.

Looking from here I would say outdoor paint is what you need! But can not tell for sure which one suits!

Whatever they have at Delhi Paint and Varnish will work fine. Just ask the man what to use.

Not knowing the base materials I will suggest a product that exists here in the states but, I am not sure as to your location. Sherwin Williams makes a paint that is called Pollane. It is a 2 part material that has a UV blocker in it and is made for PVC and other plastics. Keeps the sun light from heating the substrate and baking coatings. Dark colors are not a problem with it either as heat gains are minimal.

Polane® is a polyurethane paint and is a very good product.

Expensive, but good.

Complicated to use because it is a two-part system that requires weighing and mixing.

This does not appear to be a flexible paint - examples shown and given on their site are rigid items such as computer and keyboard cases. An awning may have to be flexible. This question was asked, but I have not seen an answer to that.

Does this awning retract, does it need to be flexible? Maybe the paints used to restore car soft tops would do.

I would just replace it with an aluminum awning.....

Colorbond is a coating for vinyl that's is used to repair fading. It is also used to change the color. Seems to hold up well. Several window manufactures use it to paint new windows to color specs by the home owner or in areas where associations spec it out. Lot of the old New England homes had painted windows.

Also used on autos to refinish vinyl interior and exterior parts parts.

Please contact your local dealer of Asian Paints, he will suggest you right paint and painting procedure. You can also ask this question on Asian Paints web site.

Try car paint. Or maybe an autobody repair shop would be able to help you out.

Sherwin Williams makes a paint called VinylSafe for vinyl siding. Again as with the suggestion for Polane, the paint will not be very flexible - is this an issue? Auto paints are available for the flexible bumpers if this is an issue. I haven't done any car painting in about 10 years so I no longer know the brand/model names.

You need to add textile medium to your paint.

I'd go with whatever was on sale at the paint store
