Controlling MONKEY TRICKS in Fields

07/19/2014 2:40 AM

We have large areas in RATNAGIRI DISTRICT ...W COAST in maharashtra where large areas suffer from Groups of MONKEYS destroy crops ....even occassional control by AIR GUNS / GUNS does not deter them .....the issue is so serious that my brother is unable to even cultivate a field of 50 acres near kankavali !
THIS could be prevelent in many parts of India / world is there any method to control ?

Do they simply destroy the crops, or steal the fruit for food ?.

If they steal but don't destroy, it means that they recognize the sources of food and probably are concerned about preserving them. They could be taught agricultural techniques to produce their food (and ours too).

Pest control is an endless struggle. What once worked may not work next year, month or even tomorrow. Maybe a season or a year of cultivating a cash only crop that your pest cannot eat will do both your soil a favor and drive this pest to other grounds.

What happens when the tiger has harvested all the monkeys?

Don't humans and monkeys smell/look/taste a lot alike?

Cultivate the medicinal plant aloe vera instead. It's in demand and monkeys hate it.

You could try what is effectively used to control their... cousins. Give them public access to television. They will not know what hit them. S.M.
