Energy storage is the one major issue in this worlds energy and power markets.

Renewables create energy not to demand. Big powerplants have to be maintained to match peak demand.

There was a discussion recently here on CR4.

So if you could come up with a partial or full solution you would get your final year over, plus had something to do in the future!

Good luck!

This may help HEAT PIPE. My undergraduate thesis evaluated such equipment.

A simple copper pipe and alcohol medium can be used.

"The economic importance of congeminating sproggles in the modern power station." There. You'll go a long way with that one.

Get one that is sponsored by some company in the industry, they are often willing to get some good cheap R&D and a fresh look from smart, green novice that may provide some new insights and possible new approaches to be researched further.

You may be able to build prototypes or buy software with the funding the sponsor company will provide.

Often, if one participates in a program like this they will have a company contact that will disperse the funds as needed an provide some guidance as a mentor would. He/she would also look out for safety concerns and help provide supervision needed.

Good Luck.

Now tell him how to find one, and you'll earn a ga.

I neither want nor need a GA. I've indicated a possible source of suggestions, and if the OP has half an ounce of wit, he'll gather that CR4 has a section called "Education and Engineering Careers", which may give him some ideas (and in which he should have posted his request). If he fails at this he's probably taking the wrong college course.

How about underwater turbines in the Gulf stream to generate electricity, which could crack seawater into hydrogen to pipe to shore for energy storage? I've heard wackier.

How about a chocolate roller coaster to be built in Saudi Arabia?

Skip the chocolate roller coaster. How about engineering a way to get oil out of Nigeria without being shot at, or being under military guard 24/7? Your country needs to grow some civilization before they get all hot and bothered about producing energy.

Hey now. I 'm still waiting for my hat that shocks people who ask stupid questions over and over expecting me to give them the answer they want and not the one I say.

I mean rumor has it that if electric current is passed through a persons head they will get smarter right? Or is it that if they get shocked hard enough often enough they will just stop asking such dumb questions thus making them appear to have gotten smarter?

Either way win win on my end. Now build my shock hat damit!

Stuff yer shock hat - just grab a roll of ally cooking foil, and make yoursef a jolly safe Christmas foil hat. And be sure to run an earth strap to a handy ground spike. Suggest you chose one near (or in) your local pub.
