Range Anxiety, the Bane of EVs?

Posted April 24, 2011 9:10 AM

The cost and battery energy density concerns may causing electric vehicle (EV)drivers to contract "range anxiety." Does fully-electric vehicle deployment leapfrog widespread acceptance of battery-based electric cars until fuel cell power becomes practical?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Mechanical Power Transmission, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Mechanical Power Transmission today.

What are you asking? Did you mean something like "deter" instead of "leapfrog"?

A medium-compact EV with a ton and a half of batteries is ready to joust toe-to-toe with the biggest Hummer/SUV in a collision. So sell 'em on the basis of safety.

(May I should have put a kramarat asterisk on that. I actually would be receptive to an all-EV; I don't have range issues where I live. Electricity is a bit spendy here, but so is gasoline.)
