A Push for Point-of-care

Point-of-care (POC) devices based on microfluidics promise to place some diagnostic procedures directly into the hands of patients. Because they offer portability, short sample processing times, and flexibility, they deserve to be the next 'killer apps.' Regulatory burdens, non-intuitive business models, and a segmented and competitive diagnostics market are cited as barriers to the adoption of POC devices. How can these hurdles be overcome to quickly channel microfluidics-based POC systems to market?
