How Well Does Engineering Fit In?

Posted September 02, 2011 8:23 AM

The term "teamwork" is impossible to avoid in any published discussion of the operation of a healthcare facility. While not exactly a buzzword, has it been overused? Does the emphasis on teamwork reflect day-to-day working reality for the engineering function in your organization? How well integrated is the engineering function into your facility's process for making major decisions?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Healthcare Engineering, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Healthcare Engineering today.

I always wonder why some topics, where you'd expect at least a comment or two, lay dormant. Is it that the question or topic is poorly worded or considered dumb, irrelevant, worn out, or what? Just askin'. The feedback might prove helpful to those who write/post these "sneak peeks." (And don't conclude I'm the author of any, cause I'm not.)

The real purpose of "teamwork" is two fold. 1. It taps the brainpower of all within the group and 2. it allows groups with different abilities to function together with one or more members able to control the group as one. It's a way to organize groups of individuals so they are all working together towards a common goal. It's a way of organizing many individuals into smaller groups which are easier to manage.
