Irish Senator Wants You to Pay to Comment Online

Posted March 06, 2013 2:59 PM

From Mashable:

An Irish senator has come up with an idea to silence the trolls on the web.

Senator Eamonn Coghlan suggested that making people pay to post on social networks or register passport numbers against IP addresses could help cut down on anonymous posting, according to the Irish Examiner. He made the comments to a legislative committee examining the relationship between social media and cyberbullying.

Just getting rid of the ability to post anonymously would probably solve the problem as well.

If all posts have a screen name and all screen names are tied to personal info accounts with the site ownership holding the persons real name, email address, home address, and phone number it wouldn't take much to track anyone down.

If Senator Eamonn Coghlan wants to be an arse about it, he will find these social networks taking their European HQs - and their money - elsewhere. They're not there because they just happen to like Ireland - they're there because they have - or had - healthy financial incentives to do so. If these go away, or if other factors make it onerous to do business there, they'll leave. In droves. These companies are in business to make money. They owe Ireland nothing and couldn't care less where they are provided it makes the Bottom Line look good and their investors happy.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch...

These networks can't hold a candle to our government's rapidly-growing potential for bullying right here in the Good Ol' U.S. of A. Lethal bullying, that is, in complete violation of everything this country holds dear - including its laws and Constitution. All in the name of Freedom of course. And once our metamorphosis to a police state is complete, what freedoms will be left to protect, and from whom? We will have become the very thing we fear: terrorists.

They won't murder you if you're not doing anything wrong. They promised.

Glad to see an American accepting where THEIR country is heading. Do you get the feeling it's like 'Ground Hog day' regardless of who's in CONTROL. It suddenly dawns on you, that you have no control in your so called democratic STATE.

No control in a Democratic state? You can say that again, I always thought we were set up to be a republic.

I keep mentioning the free video at 'thrivemovement.com' which covers, among other things, why this is happening. The lates comment to me was that when 'googled' the reviews were 'conspiracy theory' etc. and 'wikipedia' had taken its page offline for that reason and this 'sophistcated' reader chose not to view it as he placed the opinions of google and wikipedia as more valuble than his own and chose not to view the video as they said it would be a 'waste of his time'. This video covers a lot of things you may choose not to believe, but it does a good job of explaining the fractional banking system and how the president signed the paper that created the FED in 1913. This took control of the printing of money from our government and gave it to the banking industry which uses that power to 'buy' politicians. I.e. the politicians who voted to bail out the banks in 2008. D. Eisenhower warned us of the grouth of the 'military-industrial' complex in the '50's. The banks control this. The manipulation of government, the milking of citizens extends around the globe. Watch the video and then make your OWN decision of who and what you want to vote for. Join the movement and discuss problems on a local level, see what solutions are around the world.

We do not need to stand and watch the metamorphosis, we can join thgether to prevent and protect, we do not need to become terrorists.

I can bypass all the proposed methods very simply, so if I can you can bet some kid or determined adult can too. They grew up with this technology and have a better grasp than most adults.

Have we all forgotten that most of us adults couldn't program our old VCRs to tape a program on time delay but that an average kid could. Technology changes, but the children and the determined will always find a way.

Proportionally, it is probably the same. However, there are more people, so more arse holes. Also, technology has brought us together closer, so it is harder to avoid smelling them.

Ok thanks for that. I noticed something odd about the world last night. I did not fall over as much on the way home from the pub. I had to leave as the place was full of Senators. I thought they were A holes, but I could be wrong. However, a small fact, unknown to some perhaps, A Holes seem to breed better in the northern hemisphere. Does that mean they think we are all brain dead in the north? No bother, I paid my $20 to post this, I am in credit now, Wheee! All for a good cause. Areshole Restoration! The world needs them, like we need exploding meteorites in Russia.Cheers all.

If you felt uncomfortable surround by a pub full of senators,..... don't fret. You only should start fretting when you begin to feel comfortable.......

I must have fretted a bit. Just off the record, that is either a big chair or your dog is small, please confirm which is correct, as the dog looks like it could be quite a biggish breed. Or my eyes are totally out of calibration. Good to have a chuckle or two. What have the people of the world become? Thanks for the chuckles. Cheers

Yes! As a matter of fact! The biggest one in the world today, was born in Kenya, no matter what his fake birth certificate (and, a SS# from a different state than that birth certificate) says.

There is no truth in the rumour that he is related to Michael O'Leary.

I don't like taxes but everything that is free is abused.

This is why spammers can send millions of mails for less than they will gain.

If each email would cost one penny, it would not stop normal people from using this service but would greatly reduce the profitability of spammers.

Same thing with high frequency trading on the stock market. Why is it that I pay $9 per transaction but they don't? Make them pay the same and these crooks will stop (slow down?) short changing you when you place a transaction order.

The problem with these taxes is that once established, they tend to grow limitless just like the temporary income tax established early in the last century. No solution is perfect...

With the current administration pushing to gain more control, it would not surprise me that they may take over control of email and pass it on to the U.S. postal service for managing (Charging for) it.
