Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Lamborghini Countach “Periscopica” Sells for Record $1.21 Million

Posted June 09, 2014 10:10 AM by dstrohl

For all the teenage boys' bedroom walls it plastered, one would have figured the Lamborghini Countach - for decades considered the most exotic of exotic cars - had long ago broken the seven-figure mark at public auction, but it appears that the Countach LP400 "Periscopica" that crossed the block last weekend was the first to do so, selling for $1.21 million and smashing the record for the Lamborghini supercar.

Introduced as a concept at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Countach entered production in a very similar form for the 1974 model year. Its futuristic shape was the stuff of boyhood dreams, even if such radical styling necessitated a few design compromises.

Read about this classic Countach on Hemmings.

Did you notice that the rear tires are pretty skinny on this car. I thought these cars had wide rear tires?
