In March of this year, a 1981 De Lorean crossed the stage at Coys Spring Classic auction in London, England, selling for an undisclosed but record-setting price, at least according to the auction firm's press releases. Later, when the sale's full results were published, it was revealed that the De Lorean sold for £46,600 (then the equivalent of $77,449), which may or may not be a world record for a De Lorean sold at auction, depending upon perspective.
The highest price paid at auction for any De Lorean model, at least as far as we've been able to establish, was the $544,200 paid for a heavily modified De Lorean that appeared on-screen in Back to the Future III, sold by Profiles in History in December 2011.
