How Much Science in New Planet of the Apes Film?

Posted July 14, 2014 8:26 AM

From BBC News - Science & Environment:

The latest instalment in the Planet of the Apes film franchise opens in the US on Friday. The rubber masks of the 60s and 70s films have been discarded in favour of motion capture suits and CGI. But how much did science inform the new movie's portrayal of our close relatives?

Quite a lot, if The Onion's review of this latest installment of a tired film franchise is to be believed (caution, strong language).

Really! I remembered the very first movie. The real reason why people went to see it was that the makeup was kind of revolutionary. Applying the prosthetics made the rounds on all the talk shows, but the movie and its premise sucked and was really kind of boring.

Now they want to resurrect crap??? It just shows how badly Hollywood is starving for writers. How this writer shortage came about is anybody's guess -- like global warming, it's here, but no one really knows who's responsible.

Woof!!!

Amen.

I stopped going to movies, buying DVD's or renting or Netflixing anything anymore. The movies are so vacuous and worse when they try re-spinning old classics. Never the same. Hate the re-makes. All of them.

But Hollywood seems to be taking people's money so somebody must like it.

Not all is lost. There's still life to had in old stories.

Avatar? Fabulous film! Wonder how many people recognised it as a 'remake' of Pocahontas?

I didn't take a national poll, but most people I've spoken with didn't realise that until I mentioned it. I guess it depends on who you talk to.
