LG's Flexible and Transparent OLED Displays Are the Beginning of the E-Paper Revolution

One obvious application is an automotive head's-up display (HUD). Along with presenting the usual data like speed, tach, etc., these displays could also be coupled with deep-infrared (DIR) cameras for night driving. That deer about to leap across the road or that inattentive night jogger 200m ahead might be invisible in your headlights, but in DIR they'd glow like a church. I'd be willing to pay quite a bit for this capability.

Also, we can now make those sunglasses that appeared in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... The ones that turned completely black whenever there was danger!

While this is technologically great, there is nothing like a physical printed book.

While I have been reading ebooks lately, the printed book is still superior in many ways.

A recent study I heard about showed that people better retained information read in a printed book versus an ebook. The reason, in part, was that you tend to remember where information is physically placed in a real book in your hands, which helps you remember, whereas information in an ebook seems to get lost in the soup and your retention of that information suffers.

It is also easier to flip back and forth in a real book, particularly to the TOC or to the index and I never need to recharge the batteries.

Not so sure printed books don't need batteries. Many of mine at uni were powered by coffee. Lots and lots of coffee!
