Smartphones Invade the Lab

Did you ever think that one of your most valuable lab instruments might just be your smartphone? Lab Manager magazine thinks so, as seen in a cover story describing the increasing number of "apps" catering to lab professionals. In many cases, these devices are being connected and synchronized within a lab's network, often to upload test data obtained from equipment in the lab or in the field. Typical of these mobile apps is Accelrys Capture, which lets scientists move around their labs and record information in conjunction with their electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) experiments.
