Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

When it comes to exceptional performance in American cars, the good old pushrod V-8 is still at the top of the heap. The editors of WardsAuto have picked two of the most powerful new domestic V-8s for their annual listing of the world's top 10 automotive engines.

The Wards editors thickly lavished praise on the 2015 Corvette LT1 V-8, the most potent among Chevrolet's new family of small-block engines. In the new-generation Corvette, the 6.2-liter LT1 engine produces 460hp while coupled to your choice of a seven-speed manual gearbox or an optional (for an extra $1,725) eight-speed automatic. The editors raved about the crispness of the new engine's throttle response.

What makes these modern muscle engines instant classics?

Great engines, I'm sure.

As long as you don't have to work on them.
