Google Leaps Into Life Sciences

Google continues to expand beyond its internet roots with the launch of a life sciences firm to develop miniaturized electronic devices such as a nano-diagnostics platform and a smart contact lens. The new company, named Alphabet, has already lured away top talent from high-profile institutions such as Harvard Medical School. Google is not alone, however. Apple has invented a software development kit for health-related research apps and IBM launched Watson Health. Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft are also said to be developing life science products.
