Focus on Subsea Pumping Kicks Off Standardization Efforts

Posted April 29, 2016 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Norway's DNV GL has partnered with Petrobras, Shell, Statoil, and Woodside to standardize subsea processing systems, and to mitigate cost inflation and the low price of oil. As described on Enginering360, the standardization efforts should increase predictability in the value chain, thus lowering transaction costs and improving the speed of implementation. Says one industry executive: "Common specifications will potentially increase the number of business cases for subsea systems and bring synergies to the surface." The project initially will focus on subsea pumping, in two phases: developing a functional description for subsea pumping and specific targets for possible standardization; and then sharing industry knowledge and creating best practices.
