Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Aided by a sixth-place finish on stage nine, the leg from Dartmouth to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Team Hemmings finished a particularly challenging 2018 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty in the top-25 of the Sportsman category, and in 43rd place overall with a corrected score of 4 minutes, 51.48 seconds. Considering that 31 of the 117 teams that started the event – or 26.5-percent – failed to complete it, even crossing the finish line this time around counts as a win.

This year’s overall victory went to Jeff and Eric Fredette, competing in the Expert class (reserved for experienced competitors who’ve not previously won), who amassed a score – adjusted for the age factor of their 1933 Ford pickup – of 1 minute, 6.83 seconds after nine days of competition. The Fredettes were runner’s up in the 2017 Great Race, and staged a come-from-behind victory by finishing Sunday’s stage just 0.82 seconds off of a perfect score.

The Great Race 2018 wraps up. Here are the winners...
