Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

The Best (and Simultaneously Worst) Cars of the 2020 Concours d’Lemons Amelia Island

The Concours d’Lemons is possibly the only car show in the world where everyone and every car is welcome. If there are any rules, and we haven’t been able to find any so far, it’s to show up and have fun. Billed as “Celebrating the oddball, mundane, and truly awful of the automotive world,” Concours d’Lemons delivers on that promise across several events throughout the year. The latest CdL, adjacent to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, brought together a mismash of rarities and rust-buckets from the entire automotive spectrum. As usual, we saw cars that rarely get their due in any other show along with a few heaps of questionable roadworthiness. But, like fancier shows that actually charge admission, the unifying theme here is love of the automobile.

Here are the “winners” from the 2020 Amelia Island show.

Wow, and to think back in the 70's, people actually WANTED to buy some of these cars.

Big-3 Detroit marketing theory: Convince and give the public what they want and need, whether they know it or not.
