Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

The World Needs More Vans, Even of the Photochopped Variety

To be perfectly honest, I don't know why every vehicle isn't a van. What's the most space-efficient vehicle configuration? A van. What vehicle configuration has the most adaptable interior layout? A van. What vehicle configuration has the largest canvas for Frank Frazetta airbrush murals? A van. Aerodynamics? Unnecessary. Front offset crashworthiness? Live dangerously, I say.

So, in that spirit, I have convened my photochop council to vanify everything they can imagine to fulfill my vision of a world full of nothing but one-box conveyances. Cars? Vanified. Trucks? Vanified. Vans? Supervanified. Nothing shall escape their gaze. Down with the tyranny of hoods and trunks. Low, long, and sleek is out; ponderous, upright, and pragmatic is in. Embrace the van, leave all your other automotive fascinations behind, become the tabula rosa that the van represents.
