Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Strap Flap, Baskets and More: Loads of Advice on Strapping Down a Car from the Pros

After our recent article discussing methods for strapping a car to a trailer, I fully expected plenty of comments from readers discussing their preferred methods, and I was not disappointed. To start with, yes, the straps shown in the article are several years old, and we should have illustrated the article with straps that haven't seen as much use. Thanks to everybody who pointed that out. Second, from a review of the feedback we received, it seems people are less concerned with crossing the straps as they are with other tie-down methods.

One such method is the over-the-wheel basket, which we briefly discussed in the previous article as an option for when clearance under the car is at a minimum. However, many commenters see that method as far superior to - or, at least, complementary to - straight straps.

Here is what readers had to say.
