"Norman Bel Geddes wasn't your ordinary sort of industrial designer. For one thing, he never graduated from any school. For another, he lived in something of an unreal world, and even his name wasn't wholly genuine."
So last week's SIA Flashback focused on Autos by Architects
and even mentioned Norman Bel Geddes, but didn't focus on him. That's
probably because the automobiles he designed were worth an entire
article on their own, which appeared in SIA #40, May-July 1977, written
by Michael Lamm. Graham-Paige, Autocar, General Motors, Chrysler and
Nash all employed Geddes's talents at one point during the 1930s and
1940s.
