Can you log into your account online? There may be a record of the numbers that sent you messages. But it's weird that they don't display the sender's number on your phone.

It's just a cheapo PAYG phone...
That's the whole point... I only want a phone to make simple calls and texts ... I don't want to get suckered into an expensive contract for something I neither want nor need.

I want a phone to make call, which is something they often don't even do when you actually need to get through to someone.
Anyhow... why should I need to look online for information that should be available? Is it reasonable to expect me to waste my time jumping through hoops because other people can't write decent software?

When I went to the USA my phone didn't work... ??? what??? why??? I found out later that you had to "enable" it or some such nonsense... makes no sense technically... if it can work when "enabled" then it obviously has the capability... so why isn't it simply enable when you try to make the call. Half arsed technology, with software written by pillocks!

Hate to say it but I suppose you get what you pay for. In keeping it simple, they are excluding features such as this. After all, you don't want a record of any picture messages sent during said bank robberies!

If you were in the USA, the NSA could tell you what's in the message. Evidently with everyone's phone except the one the terrorists had that Apple won't open.

This would have all been moot, but our intrepid FBI instructed the owner of the phone to reset the code, removing any chance of retrieving the information easily.

Now, in order to unlock the phone, Apple will have to invent code and turn it over to the government. That insures that it will fall into the wrong hands.

Back during W's Presidency, I suggested to D.o.D. that we put up a large solar array (50 MWe) satellite that would be geosynchronous, and steerable to a point over anywhere on the globe (within reason, as per orbital mechanics). The array was to produce microwaves of a certain wavelength that "normally" would be routed to a military receiver array on the ground for power reception. Imaging satellite would link with the power satellite, and when hostiles were seen filing in line over a mountain pass into Pakistan, the power satellite was to go to narrow beam focus, of approximately 2 m², then the power density would be large enough to make our "problems" vanish. 25 MW/m² is a lot of power. I would have not lost sleep over unleashing such a weapon as this on our enemies and their ken (NOT their relatives, that would be kin).

Focusing microwaves into a beam 2 square meters in size from geosynchronous distance (23000 miles) would require a very BIG antenna!

What about converting the energy into a maser then? Perhaps one could simply rely on the beam spread to reach 2 m diameter by the time surface is reached. I would still rather conduct war from space on radicals than to have to get close enough to hear them jibber jabber.

Seriously though you would have thought they could tell you the source of the incoming missive which as you say would aid communications which is kind of meant to be their modus operandi. I know they are actually blood sucking vermin but aiding communication would provide them with more blood!

Well, maybe your phone is too old to display the content of the received message - a picture with a too high resolution or a content that is in fact downloaded via a browser (which your phone doesn't have) or whatever other reason.

Regarding the missing number: maybe the message was sent from a "hidden" number. I receive on my mobile phone (from time to time) calls from such numbers (the phone shows "unknown") - they are most of the cases from somebody that is trying to sell me the newest "wonder product" ("as seen on TV"). But what happens if a message is sent from such a number?

So, maybe the Telecoms are not to be blamed in this case and you just should discard the message an live on (with grumpy mode OFF).

Despite the G/Fs arguments I'm sticking with my steam powered phone. It does just what I want it to do, it makes phone calls.

Methinks it came from the Irish Brigade of Gen. Robert E. Lee, during the War of Northern Aggression. I am sure when the cowardly Lincolnites saw them, they fled with "tres grand vitesse". Or something like that.

Stripey, our tiger stripe black and grey, chewed the phone cord (to the wireless recharger) in my wife's room (I refuse to stay in there anymore if I want to sleep, too many cats and dogs, and old hell B***h. Cat solved all the incoming political calls and worthless marketing calls to that room. Maybe if I just hem the cat up in each room, then problem solved.

I am the same way about my phones. I just want a phone that answers a call I don't need it to take pictures or text, just answer the call. Now that I have said that, since I work for myself all of my third party service companies require that I take before and after pictures and send them to a phone at their disposal. Just to make sure we were actually there, now they also are trying to require that we have GPS locater service operational on our phone to make sure we are within 500 ft of the stores when we check in. I guess that I don't have it in me to cheat on my customers, but it must be a large problem for them in some markets, It only takes a few to make it bad for the rest of us who do the right thing and put in a days work without being told. And now that has been said my personal phone when I am not working only takes calls and texts only because they say you can't purchase a phone that doesn't come without texting. Just one more way to annoy me in my advancing age.

I want auto-record on all phones. That way when wifey (otherwise known as Hell-B**ch) calls one of these jerks that buys up houses cheap for flipping when she is insulted by their advertisement on the door of our lovely home, and supposedly berates the "receptionist" who is actually nothing but the chippy for the business owner (translation mob thug), the call is recorded, revealing that wifey said no ill words.

And when the wanker calls back and starts cussing my wife out over the phone (then I get the brunt of the hell when I get home), he is recorded, and I simply hand the nice tape over the police officer (who then arrests me for illegal telephone call recording). Catch the irony?

I believe the laws in Texas require that only one person to know they are being recorded.

look up one and two party consent laws. They have been changing to allow those who are screwed to protect themselves.

Illinois has made this change for the better.
