NASA Hopes to Finally Launch New Horizons

01/19/2006 9:08 AM

NASA hopes the third time's the charm as the New Horizons Pluto probe is set to launch today. High winds scrubbed planned launches on Tuesday and Wednesday. If all goes according to plan, the launch will take place today a little after 1:00 PM (EST).

Check out this site for everything you need to know about the New Horizons probe and its trip to Pluto and beyond. The site has everything about the journey from the rationale for the mission, to methods of data collection that will be used, to the radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) that will power the vessel (and is the center of some controversy).

Update: New Horizons is on its way to Pluto 2:25 PM EST
